Abstract: The paper represents a synthesis of the wooden vegetal associations noticed or described within the hill and mountain territory of Oltenia. By grouping them in large distinct units, according to the physiognomy-floristic-ecological criterion, one can interpret them as groups of vegetal formations. The wooden vegetation has the following groups: the resinous forests, mixtures of resinous with beech tree forests, mountain beech tree forest, the hilly mesophile beech tree and evergreen oak, eastern and central European xerothermic forests, short sub-alpine and detritus shrubbery, hill and mountain shrubbery, hill and mountain alder trees, the vegetation of woodcuts and the one along the mountain streams, the high mountain weeds and the riverside coppice of willow trees and poplars. All the published papers about Oltenia were taken into consideration, but the epitome contains only those associations that had phytocoenologic tables. In some of the cases, the associations that were not described according to some modern criteria underwent a synonymous process.
