EX SITU CULTIVATED BROMELIADS:
PRELIMINARY RESULTS CONCERNING SPOROGENESIS AND GAMETOGENESIS PROCESSES

Abstract: In this paper are presented the preliminary results concerning sporogenesis and gametogenesis (megagametogenesis) processes in ex situ cultivated Bromeliads. In the four analyzed taxa sporogenesis and gametogenesis processes are similar. The anther consists of two thecae each of them bearing two pollinic sacs. Microspore tetrads are tetrahedral, isobilateral, T-shaped or linear. The ovules are anatropous with two distinct integuments. A single cell represents primary female archesporium. Primary parietal cell generates a 1-3 cell layered nucellar cap. Megaspore mother cell forms linear triads and tetrads. The chalazal megaspore is the functional one. The female gametophyte is of Polygonum type.
